Stroke Index
All golf clubs are required to publish a HANDICAP STROKE TABLE, indicating the order of holes at which handicap strokes are to be given or received. This always appears on the course scorecard under the heading stroke index.

 


Stroke Index
The numbers on a scorecard indicating the order of the holes at which a handicap player receives strokes.

The measure of difficulty on any given hole shown on the course score card. 1 = the most difficult hole. 18 = the easiest hole.

Etiquette
A set of guidelines to promote proper behaviour on the course.

Each hole has a stroke index and a match index. The stroke index usually represents the difficulty of the hole with number 1 being the hardest. The match index is used for handicap matchplay.
Infield
Area surrounded by the oval track.

Each player scores stableford points on a hole based on their handicap and the stroke index for the hole. During the round, each player and marker has to calculate the points allocated to each score on a hole based on the stroke index.

Course Handicap: The stroke index of each hole on the course.

Course Rating: Used by organizations to rate the degree of difficulty of a course.
