swale-- A small hill or depression on a golf course.

Swale: A moderately contoured depression or dip in terrain.
Sweet Spot: The dead center of the face of the club.

Swale: Depression or dip in terrain.
Sweet Spot: Perfect point on the clubface with which to strike the ball.
Swing plane: Angle at which the club shaft travels around the body during a swing.

Swale: A gently contoured depression in the terrain.
Swing Weight: A measure of a club's weight in which the shaft and grip are correlated to the clubhead.
Teeing Ground: Area from which players start each hole.

Swale : A depression, valley, or undulation on a course. Example: My tee shot was right down the middle of the fairway but it disappeared from sight, so I figured it made it down into the swale.

(The swale in the middle of the green produced a tremendous break on Palmer's putt).

The fifth "rule" for reading putts is that if there is any substantial change in green contour between the ball and the cup, such as a ridge or swale or dome or tier, this doesn't change the fact that the last section of the putt's path is paramount.

In general, you can expect swales to channel the water away from the bunkers and toward ponds and lakes. Therefore, if you have a putt with a bunker directly behind, the putt probably breaks away from the bunker.

Anything in the center or "fat part" of the green, away from trouble: a pin on the bottom tier of a two-tiered green; a pin in a swale or punchbowl. These placements allow for different ways to get to the hole.

Break: The amount a putt will curve to the side because of the slope, grain and wind that affect the movement of the ball. (The swale in the middle of the green produced a tremendous break on Palmer's putt).

stroke: Movement of club with the intent to hit the ball.
stymie: Ball obstructing your route to the hole.
sudden-death: Form of playoff whereby the first player to win a hole wins the match.
swale: Depression or dip in terrain.

The lay-up needs to be equally accurate because a burn snakes down the right side of the fairway, and the final approach has to negotiate a gruesome pot bunker, guarding a green with such a steep swale in it that you need crampons just to walk to ...

swale: A hollow on the golf course.
sway: Excessive lateral movement in the golf swing.
sweet spot: Small area on clubface which will produce optimum power.

Swale - A moderate contoured depression or dip in the terrain on a hole.
Sweet spot - The center of the face of the club. The best place to hit the ball on your club.
