Good Tempo and Balance Will Help You "Swing Easy and Hit Hard"
All great players have the ability to swing every club at a consistent tempo and with great balance. Rhythm and balance are linked.

Balance and Tempo
Proper ball position will help ensure solid contact. Ball position should be just inside the left heel. Hands, head and weight are behind the ball.

Tempo. Tempo is the foundation of Touch, Technique/Stroke and Targeting/Reading. Pick one and use it all the time.

temporary green-- A green that is in use only temporarily while work on the actual green is performed.
texas wedge-- Nickname for a putter when it is used from off the green.

Tempo
The duration of a player's swing from first movement to ballstrike. Ideally, the swing should be like a metronome, with an evenly paced transition from backswing to downswing. Ernie Els's tempo is the envy of many professionals.

thread Like threading a needle, it refers to a shot directed through a tight fairway or opening.

temporary green When a green is closed for repair or is too wet, the greenkeeper may make a temporary green in the fairway. Yardage must be adjusted when playing a temporary green. For scoring purposes, you can only take a maximum of two strokes.

Tempo: The rhythm of your swing.

Tempo: The speed of the swing (not necessarily the clubhead speed). (Ernie Els has a beautiful tempo).

Swing tempo
A driver takes the same swing tempo as a pitching wedge, and the same is true for all the clubs when taking a full swing. The consistency in tempo will lead to consistency in contact (and thus accuracy).

One Tempo
I was asked, "What is GOOD TEMPO?" It's different for each player, but when it's good, it's consistent through the bag, from drives to putts.

Slow-tempo players are more apt to use the positive forces inherent to a long, round swingpath. They are more apt to hit high, long, beautiful shots.

By temporary resisting that pull as well as the temptation to assist the hit by releasing too early, one maintains the angle formed between the club?s shaft and the left arm and conserves the energy until a more advantageous moment.

It's the arm swing only, slow and easy, same tempo back, same tempo through.
On all wedge shots, use a soft and semi-loose grip and just let the club flow through, do not try to guide it, just let it happen.

If I had a dollar for every time my PGA Tour student, Ryan Palmer, expressed that his tempo felt slower in the transition or his take away felt unhurried after he just finished playing a terrific round, then I'd be a rich man.

The erratic tempo is due to hitting solely with your arms and trying to blast every shot as hard as you can. In your golf swing, your arms move relatively fast compared to your body rotation.

Emphasize to the children that the excitement of a win is only a temporary feeling and will eventually go away. However, what stays with the athlete is what is she learned during the game.

No matter how good of a player you are, its common to temporarily lose your rhythm during a round of golf. First, try and relax (not always easy to do when the bad shots start flying off your club face).

My swing is at tempo which measures 1.14 sec. +/- .02 sec. My 5 iron clubhead speed is measured at 65 MPH +/- 1 MPH. At this point, I have not achieved consistency in my tempo nor clubhead speed with the driver.

You can purchase practice aids that will measure the tempo of your backswing, topswing and downswing, and help you determine your ideal swing tempo.

Occasionally, a ball may also be moved temporarily at the request of another player. If a ball may obstruct another player's shot that player is within his or her rights to ask for it to be temporarily lifted.

For an illustration of good tempo you could watch Fred Couples, Colin Montgomerie, Nick Faldo or many others but the absolute master, which is why he has earned the nickname the 'Big Easy', is Ernie Els.

Choosing the right equipment, tailored to your level, may considerably help you in 'masking' your temporary shortcomings in the game.

Casual Water - Any temporary accumulation of water which is visible before or after a player takes his stance and which is not a hazard of itself or is not a water hazard.

It requires an even tempo. It requires "reading" the break in the green and hitting the ball the right distance to account for the break. At the highest level of play, it even requires knowing which way the grass is growing.

'When in effect they should be working on tempo and timing. This would help their game no matter what course they play on but at Nk'Mip where accuracy is so important working on rhythm and tempo should be your key thought before teeing it up here.' ...

Second, practice your tempo. It creates the necessary feel needed to judge distance.
Finally, you must visualize the path. A good mental picture of the line and speed of the putt will help you train yourself to repeat the motion.

Try to maintain an even tempo as you strike through the ball area.
Imagine a hula hoop, or a large wheel or circle of about 4 feet around the hole, and focus on hiiting your long putt into that area.

An incomplete shoulder turn leads to all kinds of problems from poor tempo, to a reverse pivot, to a swing that is too steep. Your shoulder turn must be full in order to get the most power and accuracy from your golf swing.

In any event they yield but a temporary improvement, if any, and in the long run are worse than useless because they make it necessary to "unlearn" them, which is very hard to do.

CASUAL WATER - no this not water dressed in blue jeans and T-shirt but rather any temporary puddles of water on the course which are not supposed to be there, like say for instance after a rainstorm.

Two key words to remember when you are in a tight spot on the course are tempo and balance. Neither is possible if your weight is not evenly distributed on both feet. With good light footwork you guard against swinging the club to fast.

Then work on lengthing and refineing your swing, hitting with the same tempo. The club head speed picks up as the clubhead distance increases and the swing control will remain the same. Soon you'll be crushing that ball.

First, find a pace that you are comfortable with, then adopt this pace on both sides of the ball so there is no real change in tempo. Once your pace is constant, simply control the distance by the length of your swing.

In the backswing, turn your upper body to the right.
Tip: Keep your right arm straight. Maintain rhythm and tempo. Keep your body balanced and well anchored.
Turn whole body to the left (during the follow-through).

If made at a hole with a temporary tee and/or putting green in use, even if the Committee did not specifically define the teeing ground with tee-markers; the length of the hole at the time should be stated on any certificate.

You also need to know what sequence to move them in, when, and how quickly. Building rhythm, timing, and tempo into your swing is a prerequisite to hitting good golf shots time and time again. Helping ...
