The Pitch Shot
A short backswing and long follow-through will ensure a crisp shot. Poor pitching results from decelerating through impact. Groove a swing with a longer follow-through than backswing. This will keep you from quitting on the shot.

Tip #56 - The Pitch Shot
Add a few yards to the chip shot and you'll be facing a pitch. Generally, chip shots can be from a few feet to about 25 yards. Beyond that, you're pitching.

The pitch shot is a great shot to play in all types of conditions and can become your bread and butter scoring shot! ...

Pitch: The pitch shot is one that goes high and does not roll very far when it lands. It is needed to play over bunkers close to the green - and to get out of the bunkers if you don't get over them.

Medium height shots: The pitch shot
Pitch shots fly higher than the chip shot, but they release and roll out once the ball hits the green.

Here are two tips to help you master the pitch shot.
First, we will address how to hit it in the center of the clubface for consistent loft each time. We cannot measure distance until the balls response off the clubface is the same each time.

A bunker shot uses the same set-up and steep swing of the pitch shot, although there is more acceleration and less ‘softness’ in a bunker shot than a pitch shot made from the same distance away from the hole.

With the pitch shot I'm hitting here, notice how my right knee is rotated in through the shot, and my hips are opened as I finish the swing.

Finally, confidence and trust are vital to making this shot successful. Practice the pitch shot to rescue yourself and your score.
