At least once in every round of golf you are bound to run into one or more trouble shots, or golfing problem you feel you are not quite up to.

Trouble shots might be a hot topic of conversation after the round, but they are less popular at the practice range. There are several reasons why we don't practice trouble shots. First of all, we never expect to have to play a trouble shot.

I begin playing a trouble shot as I'm approaching the ball. Often you can see your situation better -- get a view of the big picture -- when you're 100 yards in back of it.

trouble shot-- A golf shot hit from a precarious position such as from high rough, a deep sand trap, or behind a tree.
turn-- The start of the second 9 hole portion of an 18 hole golf course.

Trouble Shot: Having to play a ball that is in deep rough, behind an object (such as a bush or tree) or from a bad lie.
Turn: The midway point on a golf course, the end of the 9th hole.

Trouble Shot : A shot from a troublesome situation. Example: She hit a great trouble shot and saved par.

recovery (also "recovery shot, trouble shot") a shot that is played to extricate oneself from trouble after an errant shot
Example: Tim hit a spectacular recovery/recovery shot/trouble shot from the trees to within 6 feet of the cup.

Logic tells me, that if I master the trouble shots from bad places in the rough or sometimes on the fairways, to a fine art, then when I drive the ball into the middle of the fairway, on a good lie, the shots should be a piece of cake.

Turbo putt - an overhand putting style typically used as a get-out-of-trouble shot but used by some as their main putting style.

If you have no clue which club you'll need, say for a trouble shot, take a broad range of choices, like the 3-, 5-, 7-, and 9-irons. And if you're within wedge range, take all your wedges. Grabbing a few extra clubs may save you a few extra strokes.
