Aprons went through different styles just as the rest of the fashion did. It seems that each decade had its own style of apron.
From frilly and lacy to practical and sturdy, but aprons do serve a good purpose regardless of style.

 


The apron is the simplest part of the window trim to install, but even here there's room for a bit of creativity. First, decide on how long to make the apron and on how to deal with its cut ends. Both decisions rest largely on personal taste.

APRON

The trim under the sill, (which we call the apron), went on next. We held it in place with two Quick-Grip clamps.
We used the air nailer to nail through the sill into the apron.

Tie in the apron. The apron is a section of molding that fits beneath the stool. Measure a section of molding two inches shorter than the stool. Miter the outside edges a slight angle.

It's important to fill cracks and seal expansion joints between asphalt and other surfaces, such as concrete aprons or curbs, to keep water out and prevent erosion of the paving base. Filled sealcoating materials will handle cracks up to 1/8 in. wide.
