Bleed through

Bleed through - A painting fault resulting from a wood knot, solvent or other contaminate under paint showing stains in the paint.

 


3. No bleed through of previous paint color or primer. The whole point of painting was to get rid of the old color.

This wood will have knots, and it's a good idea to seal the boards with a shellac-based sealer, such as B-I-N, so they don't bleed through the paint job.

Stains must be sealed before painting or they will bleed through the paint. After cleaning the area, paint over the stain with a white shellac sealer such as B-I-N or with KILZ® Original or KILZ® Odorless.

Stain-killing primer-sealers (often alcohol-based) are specially formulated to prime and seal problem areas like water stains on walls or knots in bare wood which can bleed through ordinary primers and show through the finish paint.

Knots can pose a problem when painting, since the resin tends to bleed through the finished surface. To prevent this, spot prime any knots first with an oil-based or pigmented shellac primer designed to block stains. Read on for more.

Putty dries slowly and may bleed through; pure silicone is not compatible with paint; paint shrinks as it dries in cavities.

The doors here are 100% solid bamboo, unlike typical hollow core doors that let sound bleed through and are particularly unsatisfying during temper tantrums (what teenager doesn't appreciate a good hard slam of the door at the end of a huffy flounce ...

When you taped, did you use regular masking tape, or the good painters tape. The good stuff is waxy and doesn't bleed through. I comes in wider rolls than masking tape and is only sticky on a strip of it. Don't use the regular masking tape.

Faux and decorative painters use blue tape because when it is carefully applied, it will yield perfect straight lines with no bleed through on all but the roughest of surfaces.

Iron on low heat and paper towels is an option, however the wax may obsorb through and get on the iron. I have used plain brown paper grocery bags, with great sucess, with NO bleed through to the iron.
