Brick tie " Metal strips or wires that are inserted into the mortar joints of the brick veneer. Ties hold the veneer wall to the backer wall behind it.

 


BRICK TIE: Metal anchors installed to secure brick veneer to the exterior wall.
BRIDGING: Cross bracing or solid blocking between joists to stiffen floor framing.

Brick tie- A small, corrugated metal strip @ 1" X 6"- 8" long nailed to wall sheeting or studs. They are inserted into the grout mortar joint of the veneer brick, and holds the veneer wall to the sheeted wall behind it.

The first is known as an anchored system, and relies on brick ties and angle brackets to anchor the veneer wall to the building's structural framing. The second type of masonry wall construction is an adhered system.

The most common of the brick ties is a corrosive-resistant, galvanized steel metal strap/tie, which is essentially a one-inch strip of corrugated sheet metal.

It is just as it sounds the brick facade is anchored to the timber frame of the house with metal brick ties. The brick veneer does not support the roof loads as all structural loads are supported by the timber frame.

Brick Veneer: A facing of brick tied to a wood frame or masonry wall, serving as a wall covering only and carrying no structural loads.

Another way they accounted for settling was by nailing plywood to the logs through slotted nail holes and then attaching the masonry to the plywood with brick ties.
