Cathode-ray tube
While traditional tube televisions have some of the sharpest pictures and lowest price tags ($500-$2500), the downside is they aren't available in large sizes - 40 inches is the maximum.

Cathode
Metal filaments that emit electrons in a fluorescent lamp. Negatively charged free electrons emitted by the cathode are attracted to the positive electrode (anode), creating an electric current between the electrodes.

Cathode
The negative terminal of an electrolytic cell which, in the corrosion process, is protected and not attacked.
Cathodic Protection ...

Cathode 1
The negative electrode in an electrolytic cell. 2. The positive terminal of a primary cell such as a battery.
Cathode-Ray Tube ...

CRT - Cathode Ray Tube. A large glass vacuum tube in which a beam of electrons is fired at the phosphor coated screen. The energy causes the phosphors to glow, giving off light.

What Is a Copper Anode?

Fluorescent Lighting Lighting fixtures consisting of glass tubes with an inside coating of fluorescent material that produces light when subjected to a stream of electrons from the cathode.

Cathode: An electrode that emits electrons.
Cell: A device that converts chemical energy into electrical current in a battery.
Circuit Breaker: A device designed to open and close a circuit without causing damage to itself.

Reality: When you turn on a fluorescent light bulb (correctly called a "lamp"), there is a very brief jump in current when the ballast charges the cathodes and causes the lamp to start.

The conventional cathode ray tube (CRT) TV is now available in both curved and newer, pricier flat-panel screen models.
Screen size: Up to 40 inches
Pros: Sharp picture quality, deep contrast, viewing at almost any angle ...

A cathode ray tube or a photo enlarger becomes a table lamp. A drab, utilitarian medical light from the fifties gets stripped, refinished, repainted and reinvented as a halogen torchiere.

" When the most active metal (anode) supplies current, it will gradually dissolve into ions in the electrolyte and, at the same time, produce electrons, which the least active (cathode) will receive through the metallic connection with the anode.

Bounce. To clean dust from a computer screen (a cathode tube, not a plasma screen), wipe the glass screen with a clean, used sheet of Bounce. The antistatic elements in the dryer sheet prevent dust from resettling as quickly.

Unlike a standard cathode-ray tube, which requires distance (the depth of the tube) to resolve images, flat-screen TVs use an electric grid mounted directly behind a screen of gas plasma.

One method is cathodic protection, which utilizes an auxiliary anode so that the entire reinforcing bar is a cathode.

Hydrogen is released into a gas at the negative (cathode) electrode, and oxygen is released in the water column containing the positive (anode) electrode.

CATION: A positively-charged ion, which has fewer electrons than protons, due to its attraction to cathodes.

There are three basic types of ballasts: magnetic (of which there are energy-efficient and not so energy-efficient types), cathode-disconnect, and electronic. All types can operate two or more lamps simultaneously.
