Cavity Bridge - When the space between the out and inner leaf of brickwork is bridged, spanning across the cavity airspace, causes damp patches to occur on inner face of cavity walls, usually caused by old mortar build up on walls.

Cavity Wall: A wall, usually of masonry, that consists of two vertical components with air space between.
Ceiling Joists: The horizontal structural members to which the ceiling is fastened; may support a floor above.

Room Cavity Ratio (RCR)
A shape factor (for a room, etc.) used in lighting calculations.
RCR = 5H (L+W) / L x W, or, alternately,
RCR = (2.5) Total Wall Area / Floor Area.
Where H = height, L = length and W = width of the room.

Ash pit - a cavity that collects ash from burning logs; accessible by a cleanout door.
Ash drop - which leads to the ash pit
Fireplace grate - a removable fireplace insert that rests on the inner hearth, the floor.

EXCAVATION: Cavity or pit produced by digging the earth in preparation for construction.
FACADE: Face or front elevation of a building.
FACING: A surface finish material used to cover another surface.

AIR SPACE
A cavity or space in walls, windows or other enclosed parts of a building between various structual members.

I filled the cavity with foam insulation, then I primed all the bare wood and applied self-adhesive foam tape to the edges of the box to act as a gasket.

If there is a cavity or an air space that is interrupted at the window sill, at the base of the walls, like lintels over opening and at shelf angle supports, then flashing should be provided in the wall.

Fill the weight cavity with insulation.
Installing Tilt-Pac® Components
Fasten the metal brackets evenly down the window frame.

Obstruction in a cavity designed to resist the passage of flame, sometimes referred to as "fire blocking."

The space in the cavity between two panes of glass in an insulated glass unit.
Argon
An inert, nontoxic gas placed between glass panes in insulated windows in order to improve the insulating value of sealed glass units.

3. Stuff the neck cavity with about 2 cups of stuffing. Pull the neck skin back and fasten it to the turkey's back with skewers.

Ensure the footing/cavity is uniformly three-inches deep and slopes away from the house foundation. When the bottom is uniform, tamp the soil to compact it to prevent subsequent settling beneath the concrete pavers.

Debridge - The process of cutting away the metal on the bottom of an aluminum thermal break cavity once the two-part polyurethane has reached full strength, thus creating a thermally broken extrusion.

Cavity Wall - Usual construction for external walls comprising an inner and outer leaf with a space between for insulation
Cistern - Tank for storing water - usually located in the attic
Cleat - cable fixing for phone wire, etc ...

Cavity wall
A wall system constructed of two separate skins of single thickness material separated by a continuous cavity (usually 50 mm). This allows penetrations for services and a space for various forms of insulation . Eg.

The cavity in the ground is represented by a pit of square or rectangular section lined with brick or stone of a kind not readily acted on by heat, about ]qor 2 ft.

Inspect the control cavity to determine if the solution is simple: disconnected wire, debris, etc. If so, fix, reassemble, and test. Otherwise, continue with the next step.

If moisture gets into the wall cavity mildew and rot can result.
Method
Insulation is placed between the wall studs in external walls after the wiring, plumbing, HVAC and framing inspection.

Casement A window hinged on one of its vertical sides to open inwards or outwards like a door Cavity-wall (also called Cavity Brick) A brick wall laid in 2 close rows which are connected by ties Chair-rail (often called Dado-rail) A ...

Ventilating the attic area or cavity below flat or low-sloped roofs can be extremely difficult. If there are overhangs, continuous soffit venting can be employed. In some cases, louvers placed in the fascia board may be effective.

Answer:  Vapor barriers are intended to stop water vapor in a home from passing through the drywall into the wall cavity and condensing on the inside of the sheathing. Vapor barriers always go on the warm side of the wall.

It depends on which way into the wall cavity causes the least damage while providing the best access. In most cases, it's simpler to remove and replace exterior siding than it is to patch and repaint dozens of small holes in an interior wall.

Wall Tie: A small metal strip or steel wire used to bind tiers of masonry in cavity-wall construction, or to bind brick veneer to the wood-frame wall in veneer construction.

To fill the cores, wet the inside of the blocks and stuff wet newspapers at least 14 inches down the block-wall cavity. They will act like a plug and save you from mixing more concrete than you need.

Installation usually involves using special equipment that blows the insulation through and into the cavity or space. This includes the "two-hole method," which entails drilling two holes spaced vertically between the exterior walls' framing studs.

Build the drawer before the toolbox bottom goes on - it's easier to fit the pieces when the cavity is accessible. Plan a 1/4-in. side-to-side clearance for the drawer.

Without the barrier, here is what happens inside the wall in winter: Warm, moist air moves through the drywall and into the insulated wall cavity; at some point inside the cavity it becomes cold enough for the moisture to condense, ...

A mortise is a hole, a cavity that can be round or rectangular that accommodates a tenon that snugs inside the mortise. A joint in which a shaped projection on one end of a timber is inserted into a corresponding slot in another timber.

If excess mortar and other building debris are allowed to rest in the cavity, they can provide a bridge which moisture will use to traverse the DPC and continue its journey up the walls.

R-18, R-22, and R-28 exterior wall systems can be achieved by either cavity insulation or cavity insulation with insulating sheathing. For 2 in. x 4 in. walls, use either 3½ in. thick R-15 or 3½ in.

If the substrate is a stone or brick cavity wall, however, the application can work.
We strongly suggest using building felt over this type of sheathing.

You can help it stay put by giving it something to grab onto like drilling a couple of holes or driving some nails or screws "inside" the cavity you're filling.

I have seen installations where the wall cavity was not completely filled and wiring and plumbing penetrations were left in the top plate allowing the attic air into the home between the insulation and the drywall.
