Cement board is practically maintenance free, extremely weather-resistent, fireproof, and comes with a 50-year warrantee. The engineered panels will not rot, warp, shrink, melt, or harbor insects, making it a nearly perfect siding material.

Score the cement board with a utility knife and snap it off.

To cut holes, make a cardboard template, mark the board on both sides and score it (Image 1). Then, tap the circle with a hammer to remove it (Image 2).

Notice the ridges under the screw head? They dig a hole in the cement board for the screw head, so the head does not stick up.

Cement board and backer board is the same thing. It really helps make a stable wall to attach tile to. The weight of bathroom tile can be a lot, so it makes sense to apply it to a strong wall.
