Damask
Damask is a patterned fabric where the pattern is created by using a different weave than that of its background. It is usually satin and reversible and has large and /or elaborate patterns. Firm, glossy jacquard-patterned fabric.

Named for the ancient city of Damascus where elaborate floral designs were woven in silk. Damask is flatter than brocade and is reversible. The pattern changes color on the wrong side.

Damask is another type of fabric which is lustrous and finely woven. It is usually made from silk, cotton, linen or rayon. It also has a subdued pattern on top and lustrous finish on the reverse side.

The Hollywood sets of movies, television and commercials are showing damasks and florals in living rooms and bright cherry red prints in the kitchen. Glossy decorating magazines abound with showcase rooms done in wallcoverings and fine fabrics.

The more intimate section features club chairs, a damask-covered sofa and a sculptural bronze coffee table arranged around the fireplace.

Fabrics in traditional interior design often come in solid colors, but many also feature patterns such as florals, damasks, or paisleys. These textiles are often expensive materials like silk, velvet, or cashmere.

A fleur-de-lis, flower or damask pattern could act as a mat for hooks or wall sconces. Another way to interpret wallpaper in your home is to use it as a headboard or mural.
