The disconnect will need to be in sight of the appliance or motor, it will need to have the ability to fully disconnect the hot conductors from the unit. It also needs to be capable of being locked out.

We like to show our readers good and bad examples from those who have built before them, so they don't make the same mistake. The fact of the matter is that codes and regulations are constantly changing.

Disconnect the vent pipe. With a screwdriver, loosen the clamp holding the dryer exhaust pipe. Carefully slide the pipe off the dryer.
Remove the elbow. If you're using a flexible brush, you can skip this step.

Disconnect the drain line. The drain outlet is near the middle of the disposal. On this unit, I could loosen the drain and disconnect the disposal by hand. Near the top, disconnect the dishwasher inlet as well.

Disconnect " A large electrical on-off switch.

1. Disconnect the Power
Pull plug out of wall socket. You should never do any work while lamp is connected.
Next, we'll work on taking out the bulb.

DC Disconnect/Fuse. Can be a simple in-line fuse, $69. The class T fuse may be more suitable for this compact system since it's unlikely to ever be blown. Trace DC breaker box, $329.

A/C Disconnect - The main electrical ON-OFF switch near the A/C condenser.

Step 3: Disconnect the Tank
Use a small adjustable wrench to disconnect the toilet stop nut (Image 1). Disconnect the tank from the bowl by removing the bolts found inside the bottom of the tank.

Disconnect the drain trap from the disposer's discharge tube. It should be fastened with a locking nut. You may be able to loosen the nut with your hands, otherwise use a pair of adjustable pliers. Unscrew the nut all of the way.

Disconnect the power cord and external cables from the computer.
Loosen screws on the rear of the computer case.
Lift or slide the case from the frame.
Reinstall by reversing the procedure, making sure the housing doesn't pinch any cables.

Disconnecting the fill and vent piping was no small deal. The fill pipes were 2 inch diameter threaded steel pipe, and the vent was 1¼ inch pipe.

Disconnect power supply first.
Clean or replace filters every month. The most highly recommended is a quality electrostatic filter. Filter clogs can not always be seen by the naked eye.

Disconnect and remove the old fixture. If the wire leads coming out from the ceiling box look worn or dirty, strip the wires.

Disconnect the water lines. You can use an adjustable or pipe wrench for this; the lines usually join into a union fitting, or you may be able to remove them at the tank.

Disconnect the tub drain tailpiece from the trap. Catch the extra water with a bucket.
Remove any fasteners holding the tub to the wall studs, and that should let you pull it away from the wall.

Disconnect and remove old water heater
1. Shut off water and gas to old water heater.

Disconnect the terminals and plug in a new igniter. Reinstall it. Tuck the wires back down and attach the igniter with screws.

Disconnect the keyboard and turn it upside down. Shake it gently to dislodge crumbs. Use the brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner to push out bits lurking beneath keys. Use a soft, clean makeup brush or paintbrush for additional dusting.

2) Disconnect the shanks
Using an adjustable wrench, remove the water supply pipes from the faucet shanks and from the shutoff valves. (Fig. 2) Be sure the wrench is adjusted to fit snugly over the nuts.

4. Disconnect your power; remove the back cover of the dryer and check for loose and/or burned wiring connections.
5. While you're there, check your thermostat and that it is functioning and connected properly.

After disconnecting all the wires from the switches and from the switched outlet(s), turn the power on and test the wiring at the outlet.

Disconnect the Water Supply Lines and Drain Pipes
Shut off both water valves under the kitchen countertop directly beneath the sink.

Quick tip: Disconnect/remove batteries from/generally disable your carbon monoxide alarm if you're having your carpets cleaned.

If you have disconnected a washer, for example, make sure the shut-off value is completely turned off because a small drip, drip, can eventually flood a home.

Handy Tip: once old fixtures have been disconnected, many homeowners opt to install new bathroom floor covering; such as vinyl floor covering or bathroom floor tile.

Pull the disconnect cord to disconnect the door from the opener.
Fasten the door bracket so it is centered on the door.

To test this theory, try disconnecting the fan from the temperature gauge, since the gauge tells the fan when to run. If the fan begins to run, you have a deficient gauge. Replacing the gauge may solve your overheating problem.

When disconnecting cords, pull the plug rather than the cord itself.
Teach children not to play with plugs and outlets.
Use only three-wire extension cords for appliances with three-prong plugs.

Once you've removed the nuts that hold the faucet in place, disconnect the water supply lines, keeping a towel handy to sop up any spills. Clean the sink surface to remove any crud that's accumulated.

Disconnect the sink trap and remove the basket strainer. Clean away all putty. Take apart the mounting assembly by removing the snap ring, mounting rings, and gasket from the flange. Lay a rope of plumber's putty around the sink opening.

Before you begin be sure the lamp is disconnected
from the wall plug.
Screw type Plug:
1. Cut off the old plug plus 1 inch of cord.
2. Split the insulation 2 inches to separate wires.

Next, disconnect and remove the pop-up assembly (2). There are two types of pop-ups. One has a slot that engages the pivot rod. It can be removed by twisting the plug counterclockwise and lifting it out.

At the breaker box leave the wire disconnected at this time.
2. Use the stud sensor to identify an area between studs in which you can place the light switch. The switch should be at least 2" away from any stud.

Disconnect the lamp and remove the shade. If your shades are simple -- no decorations -- just use a damp cloth to gently wipe the inside and outside. If there are embellishments that need extra attention, use an old toothbrush to get them clean.

Many treadmills come with a monitor that when disconnected from the machine will stop it immediately. This is standard in regular gym equipment, but not so standard in home gym equipment, so try to find a treadmill with this feature.

After disconnecting the main, you turn off the breaker for a dryer outlet (I use my MIG welder's outlet), connect the custom cable, start the generator, flip the dryer's breaker on, and you have power.
