When I bought my current house, a 50-year-old ranch in need of substantial TLC, one of my first jobs was to replace the aging hollow-core sliding closet doors in the master bedroom with nicer looking bifolds.

When painting wood sash windows or panel doors, always paint the innermost sections first and finish off with the outside sections. Example, a six panel door. Start by painting the panels as the brush will overlap some onto the stiles.

With the change of the seasons, your doors may not close as tightly as they should against the weatherstripping seals. Close each door on a dollar bill and try to pull it out. There should be a reasonable amount of resistance.

Bipass doors- Doors that slide by each other and commonly used as closet doors.
Blankets- Fiber-glass or rock-wool insulation that comes in long rolls 15 or 23 inches wide.

Bird's-Mouth Cut: A cutout in a rafter where it crosses the top plate of the wall providing a bearing surface for nailing. Also called a heel cut.
