Dryers start around $250 for a very basic model, while moderately priced (between $350-$600) offer convenience features such as cool down cycles, permanent press cycles, tumble only (no heat), express drying and temperature options.
The dryer vent duct, usually a flexible accordion-type of four-inch duct, deteriorates over time. Small cracks can form from the vibrations of the spinning drum full of clothes. Grab the duct with your hand and wiggle it.

A hand held hair dryer or a heat gun should be used to thaw them out. Be careful not to over heat your line made of plastic, it can melt them.
The same rule applies to clothes dryers; use drying racks or clotheslines when possible.
Use warm or cold water (rather than hot) whenever possible.

You will notice that the dryer receptacle requires four conductors, two hot wires, one neutral wire, and a ground wire.
Since the bottom chord is surrounded by attic insulation, it's warmer and dryer, and might shrink more than the other chords. The top chords can actually lengthen if they absorb moisture.

If you are going to use the existing room then decide where you want the washer and dryer. Remember you have to have water connections for the washer, and if the dryer is electric you need a 220 volt circuit for it.
