Eave This is the part of a roof which overhangs the exterior walls. Edwardian Elevation The elevation of a house is a flat (without perspective) drawing of one side of the house as seen when standing facing it squarely.

It helps assure airflow from the eave vents in attics and cathedral ceilings.

Make provision for air to flow in and around the eave vents and to flow out through a ridge vent roof ventilator or through a ventilator on the end of the house (see first image below).

Step three: Install your eave or soffit vents:
Install two to three snap in vents under the eaves or the soffit per roof vent. There are many different sizes of snap in vent available at your local hardware store.

from ridge to eave on one end and 138 in. on the other. Divide one of these figures by the ideal exposure per course, 5 in. for normal three-tab shingles. Thus, 135 in. divided by 5 equals 27; this is the number of courses at 5 in. per course.

Typically, it is walked on, checked from a window from above, by a ladder at the eave, or from the ground with binoculars.

Trim the corners with 1 x 4 rough cedar and use 1 x 2 cedar strips under the eave, where the soffit meets the siding. When trimming the door, use 1 x 6 pine for the jamb--ripped to 4-1/8 in.--and 1 x 4 cedar for the exterior.

The contractor lays the system out on the ground, caulks all joints, then secures them to the eave through the fascia/subfascia. Then the downspouts are installed last and strapped at least twice along their length.

At the corner, the drip edge along the rake (the sloping edge) is laid over top of the eave's drip edge and nailed.

The deep eave of the roof keeps out the sun in summer but lets it in during winter, when it's lower in the sky. That conserves energy, as do the radiant-heated floors.

And because design can vary from a simple straight eave sunroom to an elaborate Victorian conservatory, there aren't any set formulas to follow when it comes to outfitting your new sunroom addition with the proper solarium furniture.
