To make sure the eave vents aren't blocked, an eave dam, as shown in Figure 2, or a rafter vent, as shown in Figure 4, should be installed to provide unrestricted air flow from the soffit to the attic.

It helps assure airflow from the eave vents in attics and cathedral ceilings.

Make provision for air to flow in and around the eave vents and to flow out through a ridge vent roof ventilator or through a ventilator on the end of the house (see first image below).

There was a heat source at the bottom with interchangeable drying trays arranged over it, with eave vents and a sort of cupola vent on the roof (kind of like what you see on many older barns) to allow the rising warmed air to carry away the moisture ...

To put it through the attic and out an eave vent (there are no eaves) would not work. Is it possible (or practical) to run it straight through to the roof? I am having the roof replaced this fall.

Insulation blown into your ceiling cavities should cover the top plate of the wall, but be sure the eave vents are not covered. These vents provide necessary ventilation to your attic, and covering them could result in severe moisture problems.

If you have an electric powered roof vent have your electrician supply power to the vent and connect it. For wind powered and solar, your vent is finished and you are ready to install your eave vents.
