EIFS: Discovery of System Problems
The problem with barrier-type EIFS cladding is that the systems rely entirely on their outside surface to prevent water penetration and moisture intrusion.

EIFS Installation
Without impacting life indoors, EIFS can be installed on new buildings or old structures that need a facelift or structural improvements.

EIFS is available in two basic types: a barrier wall system or a wall drainage system. Barrier EIFS wall systems rely primarily on the base coat portion of the exterior skin to resist water penetration.

EIFS (Exterior Insulation and Finish Stucco)
Synthetic stucco, also called EIFS (exterior insulated finish system) consist of a a polymer-and-cement mixture, which is applied in two coats over rigid foam insulation and a fiberglass mesh.

EIFS - Synthetic Stucco
EIFS, also called synthetic stucco, is under fire for promoting moisture retention that can lead to structural problems. Find out why this happens and what you can ...

EIFS has three layers:
Inner layer-foam insulation board secured to the exterior wall surface, often with adhesive;
Middle layer-a polymer and cement base coat applied to the top of the insulation, then reinforced with glass fiber mesh; and ...

Even an EIFS house with a water-management system or no evidence of moisture infiltration problems, will require periodic maintenance to minimize the chance of a future problems and to maintain product appearance.

We care because EIFS has been connected to concealed rot in wall cavities.

A type of synthetic stucco system called Exterior Insulation and Finish System (EIFS) is also widely used for all types of residential applications. Only contractors, however, should apply the material; it is not a do-it-yourself job.
