After the dormer is dried-in, move on to the siding. Before applying the siding you will need to wrap the sheathing with 30 lb felt paper or apply an appropriate housewrap.

Check for felt paper backer strips behind every vertical butt joint to deflect rain that gets behind these joints. A good place to look for problems is at the sill plates on the inside of the basement or crawl space.

Building paper/underlayment-Building material, usually a felt paper that is used as a protective barrier against air and moisture passage from the area beneath the flooring as well as providing a movement/noise isolator in hardwood flooring.

Use a utility knife to cut away the shingles and felt paper, then use a saber saw to cut a hole in the roof the same size as the throat of the vent.

Also called builder's felt or felt paper, asphalt-saturated felt has been covering roofs for more than 50 years. The felt is made of a paper base that is impregnated or saturated with asphalt to make it more resistant to the elements.

When working with a roofline or turbine vent, remove any shingles or felt paper between the two rafters where you'll be installing the vent. Cut a hole that equals the size of your vent's throat.

After the roof is framed, and before applying shingles, it is a common practice to cover the roof with felt paper (Drying in). This keeps the moisture out of the house while construction continues.

Be sure the wood is securely nailed to the rafters and there is no wood rot. Install heavy felt paper or a modern water membrane in place of traditional felt paper.

I need to stip my roof,do I use felt paper or just shingles on 1x6 boards. I heard that felt paper holds moisture in so shingles can't breath, and shortens the life on shingles.

1) Secure house wrap or felt
Cut the felt paper or house wrap away from the opening for the door, leaving an excess that can be wrapped onto the sides of the framing and then stapled in place. (Fig. 1)

The paper is a felt paper type paper which serves as a moisture
barrier for the stucco. The metal lathe is a diamond shaped
galvanized metal product. The paper back lathe is installed with
galvanized screws or nails, depending on the backing.

Using 15-pound asphalt felt paper, make a pattern of the floor by placing pieces of the felt around the room. Carefully trim edges to match the contour of the room; tape pieces together with duct tape.

Watch this video to find out how to patch a hole in a wood floor left by the removal of a floor furnace grate - such as we had in the Kuppersmith Project house - by installing floor joists across the opening, followed by a subfloor, felt paper, ...

The joists were on 2-foot centers and I used high density styrofoam insulation. I put vents under the floor styrofoam insulation. For the floor I put a subfloor of 7/16 particle board, then felt paper, then ¾-inch tongue and groove plywood.

To avoid this problem, carefully attach heavy building paper (30-pound asphalt impregnated) to the walls as a substitute for house wrap. You also might install felt paper over the house wrap as a water-repellent surface.
