A flush valve is a mechanism used to flush a toilet or urinal. The valve and associated hardware are located within the toilet tank or in the body of the urinal.
The flush valve is actuated by a chain that hooks onto the flush lever. I removed this hook.
Flush Valve Assembly
The flush valve assembly is the mechanism inside the tank that regulates the water during the flush operation of the toilet. This assembly usually consists of the following components.
Flush valve-A device located at the bottom of the tank for flushing toilets and similar fixtures.
Grease trap-See Interceptor.

Flux: A material applied to the surface of copper pipes and fittings to assist in the cleaning and bonding process.

Flush valves are held to the tank by one large jam nut on the bottom of the tank. Installing a new flush valve usually requires removing the toilet tank from the bowl, which can be rather complicated.

Flap flush valves are also available which can be operated by a handle on the cistern (as a conventional syphon flush mechanism).
The flush valve, which is located at the centre of the tank, is activated by the flush lever and releases the water held in the tank. The larger the flush valve, the higher rate of water flow.
3. Now put the flush valve into the cistern. Be careful not to obscure the cistern-to-pan bolt holes and ensure the rubber washer goes on the inside and the plastic washer on the outside. Hand-tighten the nut and nip up with an adjustable spanner.

Two mechanisms operate simultaneously when a toilet is flushed: a flush valve and a fill (ball cock) valve. Tripping the flush handle raises the flush valve, releasing water from the tank into the bowl.
Step 3: If the above steps don’t solve the problem, check the tank ball at the flush valve seat. Chemical residue from the water can prevent this ball from seating properly, or the ball itself may have decayed.
When the Flush Lever is pushed it pulls up on the Chain, which in turn pulls up the Flush Valve. This exposes the large discharge hole at the bottom of the tank allowing water to rush quickly into the toilet bowl. There are two types of Flush Valves.
Otherwise, you're looking at a half-hour job to replace the flush valve (best case) and maybe a couple of hours of work to snake the fixture clear (consider calling in a pro for this work; they're worth every penny).
Over flow tube: The vertical tube inside a toilet tank (usually part of the flush valve), which directs water into the bowl in case the Ball cock malfunctions.
If you occasionally hear your toilet running, then you may be losing water through the flush valve in the bottom of the tank. If that's the case, replace either the flapper or the whole flush valve.
All right, now let's take a look inside. See what we've got going on here. Now here's our new flapper valve. Now I'll drop in the new flush valve right through that hole down there. The flush valve is held in place with a nylon nut.

Next you will put on the trim caps and you are done with the toilet bowl. Next, you'll put the tank on. You need to make sure that the holes line up before screwing them in place. The flush valve and bolts will fit into the holes.
