The standard method of basement framing utilizes a top and bottom plate, with framing studs running vertically, spaced 16-inches on center. The bottom plate is anchored to the concrete; the top plate is nailed to the bottom of the floor joists above.

This includes the "two-hole method," which entails drilling two holes spaced vertically between the exterior walls' framing studs. The holes should be 2 inches (5 centimeters) in diameter.

If the tank’s mounting holes do not line up on wall framing studs, install wall anchors that can support the weight of the tank filled with water (Image 1).
Lift the tank into place and use screws to fasten it to the wall (Image 2).

In cases where stud finders don't work, or if you don't have a stud detector, you can locate framing studs the old fashion way. Wall studs can be found using a nail, a hammer and a little observation.

When you renovate or remodel a-frame-home, it's usually a good idea to replace the framing studs. They are really cheap and they sometimes have rot. It's best just to start with all new materials.

This is the rough opening. We first put a 4' level against the side framing studs to see how far out-of-plumb they were. The left side was about 1/4" off.

TIP: Use greenboard when drywalling around the shower stall. Adding felt strips to framing studs can provide a snug fit for the stall.

Expanding foam is applied to all inside corners and tee's of exterior walls to eliminate air and moisture transfer. Paper tape may also be used where gaps between framing studs are excessive.

Step 5 - Mount project on wall at desired location using support from above or below as shown in our two examples. Make sure your supports from above or below are at a measurement that hits the framing studs in the wall.

Position the brackets to rest against wall studs under the window -- straight down from the window edges and usually at the center of the window. For wide windows, studs may be found at 16- or 24-inch intervals between the framing studs.

It ranges from 1/4" to 5/8" in thickness, with 1/2" being the most common in residential work. The sheets are normally 4 feet wide and 8, 10 or 12 feet long, conforming to standard measuring increments, such as framing studs placed at 16 or 24 inch ...

Framing studs-A 2 x 4 or 2 x 6 vertical framing member used to construct walls and partitions, usually spaced 12 to 24 inches apart.

The panels are usually 1/2 inch thick and nailed or screwed to the framing studs. To finish the drywall the joints must be taped and a joint compound must be applied and sanded. Cardinal primes the walls and ceilings once the drywall has dried.
