Frieze
A frieze is a decorative trim that runs the circumference of a room. Today it is most often made from wallpaper and set at cornice height, in the past it was a plaster molding and is part of the entableture of a column.

 


Frieze carpet is a type of cut pile carpet which is made from twisted fibers. The individual curling fibers in the carpet create a slightly informal look which hides a multitude of sins.

Frieze: (pronounced "free-zay") A tightly twisted yarn is used to give a rough, nubby appearance to carpet pile. Frieze carpets may be loop or cut styles. It is also carpet made from frieze yarns.

The cut yarn is tightly and unevenly twisted, giving it a textured surface. Friezes hide dirt well and give a room a laid-back look. Shag is a longer variation of frieze.

Friezes are a cut-pile carpet made from slightly twisted fibers. The look is less formal than plush, but fancier than many textured pieces or Berber. The carpet feels soft on your feet, yet its fuzziness hides footprints and dirt well.

Friezes
In the 1870s, popular taste shifted to bands of paper friezes above painted walls or wainscot. Sometimes the friezes butted up against wallpapered ceilings.

I nailed the frieze board in place with a finish nailer, then I drove in some siding nails.
Towards the top of the wall the original carpenters had cut siding into wavy boards.
We were able to reproduce those wavy boards with pretty good accuracy.

Christie had a wallpaper treatment in mind that she used in her last house consisting of a fill paper, a frieze, a border and a ceiling paper. The plaster walls had a lot of damage but were salvagable.

You will find designs in the form of "friezes" (central designs) that can be used on doors, front facings and fascia boards, molding and border designs to create straight borders or framing designs.
