Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) - Material used in wall systems that resembles but generally does not perform as well as concrete. Usually a thin cementitious material laminated to plywood or other lightweight backing.

 


Glass Fiber Mat: a thin mat composed of glass fibers with or without a binder.

Glass Fiber - Glass in a strand form. The ingredients are essentially the same that go into any glass product such as a window pane or drinking glass.

Glass Fiber
An inorganic fiber which is very strong, but has poor flexibility and poor abrasion resistance. Glass will not burn and will not conduct electricity. It is impervious to insects, mildew, and sunlight.

Glass fiber tanks, in single wall and double wall versions, and the polyethylene tank, secondarily contained in a galvanized steel container, are two examples of new designs which are both proven, tested and ULC listed for the storage of fuel oil.

Fiberglass Mat An asphalt roofing base material manufactured from glass fibers. Field Tile Porous tile placed around a building's foundation to drain off excess water and prevent seepage into the foundation.

GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) - Concrete panels, usually architectural designs, reinforced with a high zirconia (16% minimum), alkali-resistant glass fiber. Optimum glass fiber content of 5% by weight.

Loose fill insulation is made from glass fiber, rock wool, treated cellulose, vermiculite, or perlite, and does not come with a vapor barrier. Loose fill tends to settle in time. Rock wool should meet Federal Specification HH-I-1030A.

They are 2 1/2" thick glass fiber board, a sturdy type of insulating material (not fluffy fiberglass insulation). This panel is covered with an even harder facing made of acrylic and Teflon.
How much insulation do these wall panels provide?

Application of foam can vary by climate, according to Roger Morrison of North Carolina Foam Industries, "Spray-applied polyurethane foam is commonly used in combination with glass fiber insulation in warmer climates.

Fiber or fibrous glass duct board insulation is manufactured from resin-bonded, inorganic glass fibers. These duct boards are available with coated or faced airstream surfaces.

glass fiber. The fiber is spun into a fluffy mat, which easily releases miniscule fibers into the air when disturbed.

Fiberglass is a thin spun strand of glass fibers made into yarn and woven in various weights. It's qualities are fire and moisture resistance but with abrasion the fibers are not strong and break and shed easily. It is difficult to sew.

Because the glass fibers are tiny, and they create tiny pockets of dead air space. Convection barely occurs in these.

Fiberglass insulation consists of small particles of spun glass fibers. Mineral wool is made from particles of rock or steel slag, which is a recycled manufacturing waste.

A second coating is asphalt based and contains glass fibers and aluminum particles. You can apply it to most metal and asphalt roofs. Because it has a tacky surface, it attracts dust, which reduces its reflectivity somewhat.

Fiber-Optic Cable - A cable containing a glass fiber for the transmission of light impulses. The light impulses carry a signal which is nearly impervious to interference and resistant to signal loss.

Adding fiberglass insulation to your attic is a great idea to improve energy efficiency but the process can be very uncomfortable due to the small glass fibers in the insulation.

Glass Wool Insulation: Material made of glass fibers, usually in the form of blankets wrapped in heavy asphalt-treated or vapor-barrier paper.

Many older floor materials contained asbestos as a strengthener. It was used in a similar way that glass fibers are used in Fiberglass but unfortunately we have later found that asbestos can cause serious health problems.

It also has different class ratings which is important where local fire codes matter. For instance, Class A shingles are made of noncombustible glass fibers which make them fire-resistant.

A 1/16- to 1/4- inch-thick base coat is troweled on to the insulation. A glass fiber reinforcing mesh is imbedded in the base coat. Finally, a finished coat is sprayed, troweled or rolled on. This finish coat provides the color and texture.

Panels of polystyrene foam insulation are installed and covered with a base coat. Glass fiber mesh is applied to panels for reinforcement, and a finishing coat is applied last. All together the coatings and mesh are a fraction-of-an-inch thick.
