Grade
Grading is a means of rating boards according to variations in the wood's natural color.

Grade beam- A foundation wall that is poured @ level with or just below the grade of theearth. An example is the area where the 8' or 16' overhead garage door "block out" is located, or a lower (walk out basement) foundation wall is poured.

Grade level: The surface contour of the land around a foundation.
Granules: Crushed rock coated with ceramic material, applied to the exposed surface of asphalt roofing products to add color and reduce ultraviolet degradation.

Grain: The direction, size, arrangement, appearance, or quality of the fibers in wood.

GRADIENT: Inclination of a road, piping, or the ground, expressed in percent.

Grade: The ground level existing at the outside walls of a building or elsewhere on a building site.
Grade (Finish Grade): A reference plane representing the average finished ground level adjoining a structure.

On-Grade Foundations
It's no surprise that most sheds are designed to be built with an on-grade foundation. This base is quick and easy to build, relatively inexpensive, and adaptable enough to accommodate all but the most severely sloping sites.

Subgrade " Prepared earth surface upon which the foundation of a structure is built.

Gap-graded Aggregate - Aggregate containing particles of both large and small sizes, in which particles of certain intermediate sizes are wholly or substantially absent.

Sub-grade Soil
The sub-grade (or soil) beneath a driveway or road plays a crucial part in the finished project. Different soils vary vastly in expansion/contraction properties, in addition to how each acts with water.
