Gusset plates can be found on many types of steel structures. A bridge gusset plate generally consists of a heavy-duty plate used at vehicle and pedestrian bridges.

Gusset - A flat wood, plywood, or similar type member used to provide a connection at intersection of wood members. Most commonly used at joints of wood trusses. They are fastened by nails, screws, bolts, or adhesives.

Gusset: A narrow panel that's shaped or gathered to give a sense of fullness, such as the side panel of a box shaped cushion for example.

gusset (gousset, m.) A wood or metal plate attached to one or both sides of a joint to increase its holding power.
gutter (chéneau, m.) An eavestrough used to convey rainwater from the roof to the downspout.

Gusset is a brace or bracket use to provide a connection between wood members.
Gutter is a shallow channel at the eaves of a house to catch and carry off rainwater from the roof.

GUSSET: Plywood or metal plate used to strengthen joints of a truss.
GUTTER: Metal or wood trough on a building or home for carrying rainwater to downspouts.
HANGER: Metal strap used to support the ends of joists or piping.

Use Gussets to solidify the walls
Even after the walls are up and screwed together, they still may feel a bit rickety. Use a gusset to secure them.

Gussets work well and can be easily cut from ordinary exterior grade plywood. Make gussets big enough to cover at least eight inches of each frame member at each joint.

Gusset
Wood or metal plate riveted, bolted, glued or pressed (wood trusses) over joints to transfer stresses between connected members.

GUSSET-A strap made of metal or wood attached at the connection of roof trusses or rafters of foundation area
beams and posts. Gussets will help limit the framing's ability to laterally rack in the event of high winds.

A triangular or trapezoidal piece of wood or metal fastened to the exterior of a joint to strengthen it. Most commonly used on wood trusses.

Fishplate (gusset)
A wood or plywood piece used to fasten the ends of two members together at a butt joint with nails or bolts. Sometimes used at the junction of opposite rafters near the ridge line. Sometimes called a gang nail plate.

Gusset A brace or bracket used to strengthen a structure. Gutter A channel at the eaves for conveying away rain water. Hardwood The close-grained wood from broad-leaved trees such as oak or maple.

These trusses are held together with gusset plates pressed into the wood, and consist of various web chords that are arranged to adequately support the roof system. Typically, these web chords are made from 2x4s.

The center seam they form will need to be reinforced, so in the next step you'll make a gusset. (Fig. 2)
Slip some wood scrap (perhaps from Step 1) under the arch seam.

I cut out eight 5:12 pitch gussets (OSB) that are eight inches high and 36" long and nail two gussets per truss. The two end trusses have bottom chords that are six feet long whereas the two middle trusses have only the attached gussets.

plywood gussets over each joint. Use construction adhesive and nails to secure the gussets. Note that the inner trusses are simple triangles with gussets on both sides.

Minimum 4-foot OSB/Plywood gussets (minimum thickness - 7/16″) cut to the same depth as the rafter, on both sides of splice

Trusses are strong because they make use of the most efficient geometric shape we know of - the triangle. Trusses are a series of triangles fastened together with gusset plates.

It is possible to remove them, but ONLY if a substitute engineered solution is put in place. For example, an engineer may design a gusset plate. The engineer may use the floor joists as the bottom of the triangle.

An engineered wood made of several layers of small-sized dimensioned lumber glued together into a single, large, strong, structural member that can be used as a column or beam.
