Insulated ceiling tiles come in a wide variety with different names, including tiles, planks and panels. All of the options provide essentially the same result, but their look and feel can be vastly different.

 


Insulated Ceiling (I.C.) - Marking on recessed lighting fixture indicating that it is designed for direct insulation contact.

With a well-insulated ceiling, this source of heat may account for only 12 to 15 percent of the total cooling cost. Thus, high attic ventilation rates are most important for poorly insulated ceilings.

That package should include not only a heating system that fits your home and lifestyle, but a house with well insulated ceilings, walls and floors, tightly sealed windows and doors, and proper zoning of living and sleeping areas.

But leave a 3" space between metal flues, chimneys and recessed lighting fixtures unless fixture is marked "I.C." (Insulated Ceiling). Don't insulate all the way along the ceiling joists to the soffit.

Keep insulation at least 3" away from metal chimneys, stovepipes, and any heat-producing electrical fixtures. The exception being a recessed light marked "IC" (insulated ceiling)
