Linoleum should not be used in basements and some manufacturers warn against bathroom installations. The linoleum itself is moisture resistant, but if moisture gets under the linoleum, it can cause a problem.

Linoleum was at one time a flooring staple in American homes. If the floor wasn't covered in carpet or a hardwood floor, odds are it featured a linoleum floor.

Linoleum
Despite its bad rap, linoleum is actually a classic choice for flooring. Invented in 1860 by Frederick Edward Walton, an English rubber manufacturer, linoleum is composed of linseed oil, wood flour, cork dust, canvas and pigments.

Linoleum: One of the first resilient floors, it was introduced in the 1800s. Made of linseed oil, gums, cork or wood dust and pigments, linoleum is no longer manufactured in the U.S.

Linoleum: An all-natural flooring material made of linseed oil, cork dust, wood flour, tree resins, ground limestone and pigments.
