Trim, Molding, and Edging
Dress up an edge, conceal end grain or plywood edges, or add detail to a base or top with any number of trim, molding, and edging techniques ranging from simple to sophisticated.

Basement moldings are areas of relief that can be added to interior walls to break up the wallpaper or painted wall and offer a little decoration.

Molding style:
From the outside, the Carajabal home was designed in a typical Southwestern style, but in the inside there were a several traditional touches. Cindy wanted to expand upon this more traditional look.

Flat molding is straightforward
Step 1: Miter cut determines the profile. Although you can trace the profile from one piece of trim to the other, a 45° inside miter cut achieves the same purpose.

Base moldings or "baseboard" are functional and decorative. They are used where walls meet floors to hide uneven edges. Like crown molding, base molding can consist of one piece of material or can be built up by using two or more pieces of trim.

Crown molding is a decorative type of trim that is typically used to line the area where the ceiling of a home meets the wall. Crown molding was originally used in the late Renaissance, when it was used to cover imperfections in this area.

Chair Rail Molding And Stairs
I have just returned from my 4th trip to Home Depot (25 minutes each way). We are trying to put a chair rail up the stairway.

If you have moldings with a cope or angle on one end and a square cut on the other, always cut the cope or angle first. After you test-fit and fine-tune the piece, you can make the final (simpler) square cut to create the right length.

Crown Molding Installation On A Sloped Ceiling
Installing crown on a sloped ceiling can be done! There are two methods for installing crown molding with a sloped ceiling. One method lets the crown molding float at the ceiling.

Molding Cutter or Head
Rotary cutters, which attach to a table saw or radial arm saw, to shape molding by moving the material past the rotating molding head. The fence can be set to the size of the material and the depth of the cut can be adjusted.

Mudsill- Bottom horizontal member of an exterior wall frame which rests on top a foundation, sometimes called sill, or sill plate.

MOLDING - Finish wood such as door and window trim.
MONITOR, SAW-TOOTH - A type of monitor characterized by sharp angled pitches and vertical sections, usually arranged in rows much like teeth of a saw.

Monopost: Adjustable metal column used to support a beam or bearing point. Normally 11 gauge or Schedule 40 metal, and determined by the structural engineer.

Shoe molding - Strips of quarter round commonly used where a baseboard meets the floor. Also sometimes known as base shoe.

Crown Molding: A molding used on cornice or wherever an interior angle is to be covered.
Culvert: Round, corrugated drain pipe (normally 15″ or 18″ in diameter) that is installed beneath a driveway parallel to and near the street.

DRIP CAP
A molding placed on the exterior top side of a door or window frame to cause water to drip beyond the
outside of the frame or at the bottom of a wall of siding (drip mold).

Shoe Base - Molding used next to the floor on interior base board. Sometimes called a carpet strip.
