Oriented Strand Board
Oriented Strand Board or OSB consists of wood strands bonded with adhesives to form a mat. Like the veneer in plywood, these mats are layered and oriented for maximum strength, stiffness and stability.

In oriented strand board, much less-expensive chips of wood are used instead of a continuous veneer.

oriented strand board, or OSB (panneau à copeaux orientés, m.) Structural wood panel manufactured from wood strands which are oriented in the same direction and bonded together with glue.

Oriented Strand Board or OSB- A manufactured 4' X 8' wood panel made out of 1"- 2" wood chips and glue. Often used as a substitute for plywood.

Oriented Strand Board (OSB) - OSB is a structural grade wood product that generally has the same uses as plywood for a little less money. It looks like wood chips and thin pieces of wood that are glued and pressed together.

Oriented strand board (OSB board) can be used for many things that plywood can do. However, it does have its limitations. In some cases, treated plywood is a cheaper and just as useful choice.

OSB or Oriented Strand Board is a substitute for plywood. It is no better than plywood so if you would only use 3/4 inch plywood, then 3/4 OSB may be substituted (in most instances) It is generally cheaper, so that is why its use is increasing.

We used 4x8 oriented strand board sheets as roof sheathing. As you nail the sheathing panels, stagger the vertical seams between rows for added strength. H-clips also strengthen the horizontal seams between rows.
