Shoe Molding/Quarter Round Use
I must when baseboard sealing of the gap between floor and wall use shoe molding or quarter round. It is flexible and follows the waves in the floor.

Remove and save any quarter round and base trim (image 1). Roll out the closed cell foam underlayment over the length of the room and cut it to size (image 2).

Install the quarter round. It should be nailed to the baseboard trim or wall, not through the floor. Do not force the quarter round down tight against the flooring.

Some types of moldings (like the Quarter Round molding) are fragile and can easily break. If that happens, it's up to you to replace them. Scratches or nicks to the baseboards are also common and you'll be responsible for the repairs as well.

Finally, quarter round molding is installed at the base of the wall to conceal the edges of the flooring. The transition strip is tapped into place. And the transformation from carpet to laminated floor is complete.

Baseboard shoe - A narrow piece of trim, usually quarter round, attached to the baseboard at the floor to hide any gaps.

At the corners where two trim pieces met, we finished it off with 3/4" quarter round.
