Saturated Felt - A felt which is impregnated with tar or asphalt.
Scratch Coat - The first coat of plaster, which is scratched to form a bond for the second coat.

Saturated Felt: An underlayment, or water-resistant layer, put down beneath shingles and made of felt impregnated with asphalt.

Saturated felt- A felt which is impregnated with tar or asphalt.
Schedule (window, door, mirror)- A table on the blueprints that list the sizes, quantities and locations of the windows, doors and mirrors.

Saturated Felt: A felt which is impregnated with tar or asphalt.
SBS-Modified: Asphalt that has been combined with SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) polymers to increase its elasticity.

Saturated felt: An asphalt-impregnated felt used as an underlayment between the deck and the roofing material.
Self-sealing shingles: Shingles containing factory-applied strips or spots of self-sealing adhesive.

Saturated Felt - A felt that has been partially saturated with low softening point bitumen.
Scuttle - A hatch that provides access to the roof from the interior of the building.

SATURATED FELT - Roll roofing paper that has been saturated with asphalt.
SEEPAGE PIT - A septic tank and cesspool making up a system for sewage disposal.

Asphalt-Saturated Felt-The Grandaddy of Underlayments
Also called builder's felt or felt paper, asphalt-saturated felt has been covering roofs for more than 50 years.

They come in four different types of material: smooth-surfaced, saturated felt, specialty-eaves flashings, and mineral-surfaced. Only mineral surfaced is used alone as a primary roof covering for small buildings like sheds.

plies of saturated felts, coated felts, fabrics or mats assembled in place
with alternate layers of bitumen and surfaced with mineral aggregate, bituminous
material or a granule surfaced sheet, commonly abbreviated BUR.

The earliest built-up roofing was made of tar-saturated felts installed in 2-5 layers (plies) with a coating of hot tar between alternate layers. Subsequently, asphalt felts and coatings were used.

Asphalt Felt #30 - an asphalt-saturated felt or an asphalt coated felt, primarily used as the base layer on sloped roofs.
Backnailing - the practice of blind-nailing roofing felts to a substrate in addition to hot- mopping to prevent slippage.

Underlayment: Asphalt saturated felt used beneath roofing to provide additional protection from the deck.

Underlayment:
one or more layers of felt, sheathing paper, non-bituminous saturated felt, or other approved material over which a roof covering, with a slope of 2/12 or greater is applied.

The reinforcement material can consist of bitumen-saturated felt, coated felt, polyester felt or other fabrics. A surfacing is generally applied and can be asphalt, aggregate, emulsion or a granule-surfaced cap sheet.
