Solvent: pipes and connectors of some types of plastic can be bonded together using a special solvent cement. These plastics tend to be the more expensive available but are easy to use.
Solvent-based paint removers or strippers use chemical solvents to remove old finishes. They are not one chemical, but a combination of chemicals, each with a specific job to do.
Solvents didn't really help to remove the epoxy at all, but they made it less sticky. At least it could be mashed and scraped to some extent. I used toluene, but all I could find for a rag was a gray polyester-blend T-shirt.
Solvent-based chemicals do not contain any water and do not register a pH balance. Their ingredients are only soluble in other solvents. Some examples of solvent chemicals are paint thinners, most penetrating sealers, D-Limonene, and alcohol.

SOLVENT WELDING
The simple solvent-welding process used to join many plastic pipes must be done properly to prevent leaks. Here's how.
Solvent-based waxes require buffing for a high-gloss shine, while polymer waxes are self-polishing and do not require buffing. Polymer waxes will, however, turn yellow over time and need to be stripped and reapplied.

The solvent may not dissolve paint that's already dried on the brush, but you can usually scrape that off with a metal-bristle brush or a metal comb. Once the brush is clean, smooth out the bristles and allow it to dry thoroughly.
The solvents in alkyd primer will raise the nap of the drywall paper, requiring extra sanding before re-coating. Latex sealers do not raise the paper nap and can be top-coated with alkyd or latex.
The solvent process produces three types of shellac:
1. For the wax-containing grade, raw seedlac and alcohol solvent are charged into a dissolving tank. The solution is refluxed for an hour or so and then filtered to remove insolubles.

For Alkyd paints use solvent (paint thinner) first then soapy water. For Latex paints, just soapy water.
