Stack vent-An extension of a solid or waste stack above the highest horizontal drain connected to the stack, sometimes called a waste vent or a soil vent.

 


Stack Vent: Also called a waste vent or soil vent, it is the extension of a soil or waste stack above the highest horizontal drain connected to the stack.

Stack Vent - A vertical outlet in a built-up roof system designed to relieve the pressure exerted by moisture vapor between the roof membrane and the vapor retarder or deck.

Whole-house passive stack ventilation - or PSV - systems work on the buoyancy principal. Hot air is buoyant in cooler air and tends to rise. This is called the 'stack effect', which also describes the equipment.

Then once in the attic area use some foam insulation again around your stack vent and any light fixture openings, of course, being careful not to foam in any electrical wire.

Apply the shingles - starting at the eaves and working upward.
Apply flashing around all areas where leaks might come into the house - against the chimney, stack vents, etc.
Install the ridge vent.
