A stoop is an architectural style of exterior staircase entrance traditionally popular in the Netherlands. The word comes from the Dutch stoep. The steps of stoops are made of cement, as are the solid short walls on each side of them.
Landings, stoops, and steps can be made of masonry, such as brick or concrete, metal or wood. All stoops/landings and steps with a total rise of more than 30 inches above the floor or grade area are required to have guard rails.
stoop (perron, m.) A low platform with or without steps, outside the entrance door of a house.
storey. Also, story (étage, m.) The floor of a building or the habitable space between floors.
Stoop and you'll be stepped on; stand tall and you'll be shot at.

If the front stoop is a genuine hazard, keep it off limits while directing guests through the garage or a side entrance. And keep younger family members on notice that they might need to hustle outside to help Aunt Wilma.

Entrance stoop-An elevated platform constructed of wood framing or masonry at the front entry that allows visitors to stand above or out of the elements.
Let the board be of a proper height, and set so that the person may be a little on the stoop while cleaning the knives.
Not only do they have great flavor, but they're easier to harvest as you can pick them from a standing position with little stooping required.
Saw the Lip off the Brick Stoop
Use a circular saw equipped with a diamond blade to saw the brick overhang off the edge of the stoop. Build a temporary chute from the open chimney to the doorway and place a fan to channel the dust outside.

Rollout shelves reduce stooping and bending; raising the dishwasher an extra few inches does too. Add a heatproof landing area next to the oven and stove to reduce cross-kitchen carting of heavy pots and hot pans.
Clear a space to put a luggage rack or a small table or bench to set down a suitcase. No one likes to have to stoop over to the floor to pull out a clean pair of socks. Even a chair is better than nothing!

The top of the counter for home repairs and building projects must be sturdy; about 1 ½" thick. Height of the workbench is important. You want to comfortably work on projects without stooping.

If the houses on your street look alike, it might be worth adding more elaborate door trim, flanking windows, or a sharp-looking stoop or porch. The front walk and steps should also be in good repair, as should the house paint or siding.
