Floor joists and subfloor
Now, you are ready to start building the subfloor structure on top of the foundation with flooring materials. You will start by putting the sill plate down on top of all the anchor bolts.

Subfloor improvements: Squeaky floors can be remedied by locating the floor joists and screwing the subfloor down with deck screws. Subfloor could be removed to access wiring and plumbing, although this could be very time consuming.

A subfloor slab or foundation using a flooring material made from marble or other stone chips set in portland cement and polished when dry.

And speaking of subfloors…what are they? A subfloor is the layer of planks or plywood that is laid over the floor joists when your house is built. Concrete can also be a subfloor.

How to Level a Subfloor
No matter what kind of flooring you're installing, it's important to make sure the surface beneath it is level, smooth, and flat. Most subfloors will have low spots that require filling with floor patching compound.

We bought plywood subflooring and then began to horse logs up to the floor area. We used the truck to pull the logs, on rollers, alongside the house, where we had earlier leaned smaller logs ripped down the center and placed, freshly-cut side up.

There are many flooring options, but the most comfortable involve a subfloor installed above the concrete floor. The subfloor keeps the finished floor away from direct contact with the cool concrete.

Wet installs layer either a slab of concrete beneath the subfloor or a thin sheet of concrete between the subfloor and the surface. Dry installs place the tubes directly beneath the subfloor during construction, without the concrete on top.

Laying tile over a plywood subfloor can be a bit tricky, but if you take the time to prepare the sub floor properly, you can enjoy a new tile floor that will last for a lifetime.

Before installing hardwood floors over radiant heated floors make sure the subfloor has released as much moisture as possible.

If it is a gap between the subflooring and the supporting joist, the fix is to fill in the gap. Reference the drawing to see the placement of shims between the top of the floor joist and the sub-floor.

A Floating Floor is an engineered floor that is not mechanically or adhesively fastened to the subfloor and can be installed over existing floors such as concrete, vinyl, linoleum, wood and some low pile carpets.
