Suspended ceilings are hung from the ceiling joists with a metal grid. This creates a cavity between the joists and the ceiling where pipes, wires, and ductwork can be installed and worked on.

Suspended ceiling: A flat ceiling built right under an existing ceiling. It could be aluminium suspended ceiling, fabric, fiberglass, acoustic, wire net, wooden ceilings of red oak, maple, and cherry hung from the ceiling joists with a metal grid.

Suspended ceilings are tile set in a grid work. Tile sizes are either 2’x2’ or 2’x4’. All kinds of textures are available. The suspended ceiling can be installed just below the existing ceiling.

A suspended ceiling is more likely than other types of ceilings to contain asbestos tiles. These types of ceilings are also referred to as dropped ceilings or acoustic ceilings.

Installing Suspended Ceilings
Following are tips and instructions on how to install a suspended ceiling. Spend a few minutes reading the directions thoroughly. This can help save you time and effort.

These fit into a suspended ceiling grid, usually in a commercial building. The acoustic tile is used to reduce the noise in the space by absorbing sound waves rather than reflecting them which hard surfaces tend to do.

Pipes that run above suspended ceilings, for example, will often not collect condensation because the area is drier than the basement itself.
