Thresholds and Hallways
In many philosophies, thresholds have deep symbolic meanings. They mark a transition between the inner and outer worlds.

Finally, a homeowner should consider their threshold for inconvenience and disruption. A home addition, particularly if it involves the kitchen, is very disruptive to today's busy lifestyles.

Threshold - The bottom metal or wood plate of an exterior doorframe. Generally they are adjustable to keep a tight fit with the door slab.

Wooden thresholds often wear down to the point where they must be replaced. This is an easy installation, and there are many types of replacement thresholds from which to choose.

Using the threshold you took off the original frame may or may not work. If your feeling really 'handy', you can try cutting the door frame and re-attaching the threshold before installing the frame in the doorway.

- When the threshold is tight against the door stops and casing, snap the shim ends off flush with the subsill.

Install any thresholds between the end of the flooring and any open doors where the flooring ends. Thresholds come in different styles to accommodate the kind and height of the flooring the new laminate floor butts up against.

My front door threshold (bottom of door) is only 1/2" above the floor. I understand that to lay ceramic tile properly I need to put down durarock, or hardibacker board prior to the tile, but then I won't be able to open the door! ...

To weatherstrip a door, first install the threshold. Measure the distance from the floor to the bottom edge of the door; thresholds come in a number of heights-typically 5/8", 1" and 1-1/2".

One way of doing it is to add a board or threshold on the floor that the door closes against. Add weatherstripping to this board as well. You can also install a raised threshold that is under the door.

The silicone caulk joint between a marble threshold and the aluminum shower enclosure had failed. To make matters worse, the tile setter placed the marble threshold so it had a reverse tilt.

The simpler of these devices will essentially activate or deactivate the appliances plugged into them when a room's temperature reaches a preset threshold.

These devices send out sound waves above 20 kilohertz, the typical human high-end threshold for hearing, and some modulate between 32 and 64 kHz so undesirable animals cannot adapt. But Orkin's Baumann and others are skeptical.

Different people will have different thresholds in which they feel compelled to take action and different ideas about what actions are acceptable.
