Toenailing - To drive a nail in at a slant. Method used to secure floor joists to the plate.
Top Chord - The upper or top member of a truss.

TOENAILING: To drive a nail at a slant with the initial surface in order to permit it to penetrate into a second member.
TRANSOM: The bar or horizontal construction that divides a window. More commonly applied to the sash over the door.

TOENAIL: Nailing diagonally through a member.
TOLERANCE: The acceptable variance of dimensions from s standard size.
TONGUE: A projection on the edge of wood that joins with a similarly shaped groove.

Toenail: Driving a nail at an angle into the corner of one wood-frame member in order for the nail to penetrate into a second member.
Tool: To finish a mortared joint in masonry, leaving an impression of the finished tool.

@KoiwiGal - That does sound nice, and it will probably last longer than a tile shower pan since, as it says in the article, those tend to leak.

Toenail the end trusses through their bottom chords, and hold them plumb with 1 x 4 braces. Nail a 3/4-in.-thick spacer to the tail of each end truss.

Toenail the 1st beam member in place to hold it temporarily.
TIP: The ends of a beam can be cantilevered a short distance beyond the post supporting it, which makes the posts less noticeable. Check local codes for the maximum cantilevers allowed.

Toenails of heavier dogs can scratch wood floors, keeping nails trimmed can reduce the problem. For heavier dogs and more expensive flooring, there’s a product called Softpaws that fits over the toenail and keeps it from digging in the wood.

Toenail
Method of fastening two boards together as in a "T" by driving nails into the board that forms the stem of the "T" at an angle so they enter the other board and cross each other.

Toenailing
To increase a nail's holding power( the resistance to pullout), drive the nail in at an angle.

Tongue The narrower extension on the edge of a board that is received by the groove of an adjacent board.

Toenail
To drive a nail diagonally to the surface of a vertical member to fasten it to a horizontal member. This is usually done when end nailing is not practical.

toenailing (clouage en biais, m.) Nailing at an angle to the first member so as to ensure penetration into a second member.

Now, I could toenail this in, but I don't think it would be strong enough, and I don't want to use metal brackets. So this is what we're gonna do.

Toenail through the lower edge of the upright into the floor with an 8d finish nail to secure it in place (see image).
Next, install the lower permanent shelf (see left side, first image at top).

When toenailing, stagger opposing nails so they pass each other.
Nails and other hardware should be hot-dipped zinc-coated (galvanized) or equally well-protected material. Otherwise, weather may cause them to rust, leaving streaks on your deck.

toenailing driving a nail spike or brad at an angle into the end of one piece of wood to fasten it to a second piece avoids having the nails show above the surface

Sequence assembly to avoid toenailing
First, fasten the header to the king stud. Before installing any adjacent studs or the top plate, I connect the header to the king stud. Again, I use the #5 domino nailing pattern.

I methodically put up the walls, one log at a time, toenailing three 12-inch spikes into predrilled holes in the base of each log.

(2) Drill posts and set on pins. Toenail crossbeam to post. NOTE: allow 7' 4" from floor to bottom of front header for best ventilation.
(3) Pre-notch rafters to compensate for slope. Allow a 1" minimum pitch per foot for adequate drainage.

Toenail each end temporarily to the beam to provide support. Determine the length of each support post by measuring from the bottom of the beam to the top of the post anchor. Measure 1 1/2" on the side of the post and mark for notching.

For the center support, toenail a 2x6 joist to the middle of the boards secured to the side walls.
For the seat's front, frame a small knee wall out of 2x4s, leaving a void in the center for the book cubby.

Balusters often butt directly under the handrail and are toenailed in place, but sometimes the butt joint isn't perfect, causing a gap between the baluster and handrail.

Choosing just the right colour, whether it's covering one-square-inch of toenail or 500-square-feet of wall space, is a challenge, primarily because there are just so many colours to choose from. Where do you start?

Its also easier and faster than toenailing, where the angled nail sometimes can cause splits or miss most of the stud altogether. Either way, lay out stud locations on both the bottom and top plates at the same time.

Toenail the framework onto your existing wall, nailing into that wall's studs.
6. Block in the Pipe-and-Wire Area
Since the area of pipes and wires cannot be filled in with full-size framework, you'll need to get creative.

(two in each 8" filler) Another choice is to toenail all lumber with 16d galvanized nails on all sides. A third choice, my preferred method, is to screw galvanized 3 inch Phillips head screws in place of nails.

When the wall is flat on the floor, you can hammer in two 16d sinker nails through the plates up into the ends of the studs. This makes for a better connection rather than toenailing the studs as you will be forced to do if you build the wall in ...

The joists above the first floor are connected to the central girder of the home by steel brackets. These brackets provide a far more effective alternative than does toenailing nails to hold the joists in place or to notching the girder to hold ...

Supporting of the ledger to the band joists of the house with nails, either through the ledger and into the ends of the joists or toenailing is not sufficient.
