Upholstery is the work of providing furniture, especially seats, with padding, springs, webbing, and fabric or leather covers. The word upholstery comes from the Middle English words up and holden, meaning to hold up.

Sometimes a woodworking project requires branching out into other materials. Such is the case when making a chair or seat, if upholstery is added to the mix.

Upholstery tacks are specially designed nails that are used to secure upholstery fabric to a frame. These upholstery nails are somewhat similar to the shank nails used to secure building materials to concrete blocks.

Most all upholstery fabrics can be cleaned using a dry cleaning solution. Dry cleaning solutions are available at various hardware or grocery stores.

Choose a central fabric, usually the upholstery fabric while the other two will be chosen around this main fabric. Don’t be shy, and don’t choose a solid, especially if you want to hide dirt and wear for a more kid and pet-friendly room.

The most effective tool for this mess is " no surprise " your vacuum cleaner with the upholstery attachment.
