DIY loose-fill loft insulation materials, such as vermiculite and mineral fibre, are sold in bags and can be poured between the joists to the recommended depth.

Loose fill insulation is made from glass fiber, rock wool, treated cellulose, vermiculite, or perlite, and does not come with a vapor barrier. Loose fill tends to settle in time. Rock wool should meet Federal Specification HH-I-1030A.

A potential asbestos problem both inside and outside the home is that of vermiculite. According to the USGS [55], vermiculite is a claylike material that expands when heated to form wormlike particles.

Some attics have vermiculite insulation, which may contain asbestos, a health hazard. Vermiculite is a lightweight, pea-size, flaky gray mineral.

These plants all prefer a planting mix of equal parts sand, peat, and bark (or perlite/vermiculite). This forms a firm but loose planting medium that will permit good drainage.

Insulating Concrete Concrete with vermiculite added to produce lightweight, insulating concrete for subfloors and roofs.
Interior Trim General term for all the finish molding, casing, baseboard, etc., applied within the building by finish carpenters.

Waterproofing material made of granular vermiculite or perlite or beaded styrene.
