Window jambs form the frame in which the window sash slides. The top, horizontal jamb is called the head jamb; it is connected to the side jambs.
The window jamb does not reach all the way through the 2x6 framing.
Andersen is pretty clever about this. They make a series of extension jambs that are designed for just this application: 2x6 stud walls with 7/16" OSB sheathing and 1/2" drywall.

Aerogel
A microporous, transparent silicate foam used as a glazing cavity fill material, offering possible U-values below 0.10 BTU/(h-sq ft-°F) or 0.56 W/(sq m-°C).
Using a straight edge, make sure that the window jambs are flush with the wall. If they stick out, trim them with a plane; if they're recessed, glue thin strips of molding material in the gaps.

Mechanical flanges fit into grooves around the window jamb. They rely on a ribbed spline to stay engaged in the groove. The spline and a narrow gasket work together to keep out water.
Measure window width: Professionals suggest measuring the top, middle, and bottom of the window jambs to ensure proper measurement. Measure from the surface of the right window jamb to the left window jamb, avoiding any trim or parting strips.
V-Type Strips - V-shaped weatherstripping (see first two images below) is fitted against the side of the door or window jamb so it presses against the edge of the door or sash and forms a seal. V-stripping may be vinyl or bronze.
Run tape from one side of the window jamb to the other side of the window jamb. You will be measuring from the inside of one jamb to the inside of the opposite jamb.
Casing originated as a method to hide the cut edges of door and window jambs and bridge the gap to the adjoining wall. Some taper inward toward the door or sash to create a light-catching frame.
After staining or painting the siding, install the door and window jambs (Photo 16). Nail the jambs directly to the framing, with the outside edge of each jamb flush to the face of the siding.

So precise can the joint now be made on such items as mouldings, door and window jambs, and doors that the lines of joining are barely perceptible. When there is no great variation in grain or color, the end-welded pieces appear as one.
The anti-walk pad at the window jamb prevents the glass from "walking" in the glazing pocket and contacting the metal frame.
Give some attention to what type of windows you're thinking of insulating. Perhaps part of the problem is a lack of insulation at the window jambs -- where the window meets the wall -- or behind moldings.
