their own stock to pick up the famous Arabian qualities. In fact, the Arabian horse is the genetic predecessor of every light horse breed in existence today. A special modern breed of horse known as the Half-Arabian developed through Arabian crosses.

 


At present, the Karabakh is bred mainly in Azerbaijan, but most of the horses are Karabakh-Arabian crosses, not pure Karabakh horses. Currently the breed numbers below 1,000 and is threatened with extinction.

Golddust was recorded as Morab #69 in the Morgan Registry when provisions for recording the Morgan/Arabian crosses were made in both the early Morgan and Arabian Registries.

The original breeders tried several different Arabian crosses to include the Thoroughbred, Spanish and Arab. After failing with these, they bred Arabians to native Hungarian mares. This cross proved successful this breed is now known as the Shagya.

Popular cross-breeds are Quar-ab (Quarter horse and Arabian), Anglo-Arab (Thoroughbred and Arabian), Ara-Appaloosa (Arabian and Appaloosa), and Paint/Arabian crosses .

All the registered Abstangs are the result of Mustang/Arabian crosses. There are no Abstang to Abstang matings as yet, and there seem to be little interest in creating any.

The breed is often used to add refinement and athleticism to many pony, warmblood and draught horse breeds. Many sport horses have Thoroughbreds in their ancestry. Thoroughbred Arabian crosses are called Anglo-Arabs.

The expanded NSHR permits ALL Half-Arabian crosses to compete for these notable monetary awards. A National Show Horse is only required to possess 50% Arabian blood. The other half can be of any other breed.

when the Arabian Registry changed its procedures and registered only purebreds, the earlier records I was seeking are now nowhere to be found. I was disappointed not to be able to obtain the material but I was elated to know Morgan/Arabian crosses ...
