Argentine Criollo Horse Breed Characteristics :
The Argentine Criollo is a branch of Criollo horse breed. It was developed from the early 16th century when bloodlines from Arabian, Barb and Andalusian stock were brought from Spain.

Argentina's native horse, the Criollo, may have the best endurance of any horse breed in the world next to the Arabian. The breed is most popular in its home country, and is known for its hardiness and stamina.

The Argentine Criollo is a small, muscular horse breed that originated in Argentina. Known for its great stamina and capacity for hard work, the Argentine Criollo needs little care and is even resistant to some of the more common horse illnesses.

With Argentine Criollo's being allowed to stand from 13.2-15.1 The American Criollo has a tighter range of 14. hands -15 hands. With 14.2 to 15 hands preferred. Some of the Criollo breeds appear very stocky, due to Dutch and Throughbred influence.

Although most of theses horses died during the trip, a few of them survived and went on to form the basis for the Argentine Criollo.

He carefully selected 15 mares that would become the breeding stock of the Argentine Criollo breed. Indeed, the doctor has a personal idea of the qualities neccesary to make a good working horse, and based his selection on the needs of rural workers.

Emilio Solanet took over the breeders' association and decided that the Criollo should be closer in appearance to the shorter, stouter "Chilean Stock Horse." The Argentine Criollo breed registry closed in 1957 to all non-native horses.
