The Azerbaijan is shaped a bit like a wedge, but well-proportioned nonetheless. It has a short but muscular back, strong legs, firm hooves, and thin, short ears. However, its most noticeable characteristic is its wide, well-developed chest.

 


The Azerbaijan is a saddle horse that comes from regions of Azerbaijan and parts of Georgia and Armenia.

Since the 1950s Azerbaijan horses have been improved by Arabian and Tersk sires while Karabakh was bred separately. Crossbreeding involved horses of the Deliboz type.

Some historical sources mention that during Arab invasion of Azerbaijan in VIII-IX cc. tens of thousands of horses with golden-chestnut coloring, which is characteristic colors for Karabakhs, were taken by the conquerors.

This breed of oriental saddle horses was formed in Kazakh, Akstafa and Tauz regions of Azerbaijan and adjacent areas of Georgia and Armenia. Some earlier publications described it as the "Kazakh" horse of Azerbaijan or as the Azerbaijan horse.

At present, the Karabakh is bred mainly in Azerbaijan, but most of the horses are Karabakh-Arabian crosses, not pure Karabakh horses. Currently the breed numbers below 1,000 and is threatened with extinction.

The Karabakh horse developed in Azerbaijan of the former U.S.S.R., in the upland area between the Araks and Kura rivers. The Karabakh is another breed of mountain horse that has adapted well to its harsh environment.

It is named after the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan , part of which is under Armenian military occupation. The horse was originally developed in this region. These horses are noted for their good tempers and speed.

An ancient mountain saddle breed, the Karabakh was developed in Azerbaijan. Karabakh were used before the 19th century in improving horse breeds for horses in neighboring countries.

The Karabakh horse is named after the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, it is a riding horse initially used for mountain steppe racing.

The horse breed was originally developed here. The region of origin of the horse is a part of Azerbaijan. At present, the highland part of Azerbaijan is under the sway of Armenia. The good temper and speed of this breed makes it notable.

It was developed by crossing the native Azerbaijan horses with Persians, Arabs and Turkmenians. The Arabian influence was most pronounced; there are important similarities in appearance between the Karabakh and the Arabian.

The Kabardin is the principal breed of the Northern Caucasus, and is widely used to improve native stock in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. The best Kabardins are raised at the Karachai and Malka studs.

They are often used as a sport horse] outside of Russia, and for the creation and improvement of other breeds, such as the Anglo-Kabarda, the Tersky, and native stock in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia.
