History and Origin of the Breed
The Bashkir Curly dates to 1898 when Peter Damele and his father were riding horseback in the Peter Hanson mountain range in the remote high country of central Nevada, near Austin.

Bashkir Horse
The Bashkir is one of northern Eurasia's mountain breeds; similar to the Kazakh, the Adaev and the Dzhabe, and the Buryat of Siberia.

They are probably related to the Steppe horses of Western Asia and may contain other blood of Turkish origin.

Bashkirs are concentrated on the slopes and confines of the southern Ural Mountains and the neighboring plains. They speak the Kipchak-based Bashkir language, a close relative of the Tatar language.

The Bashkir Curly gets it name from the ancient Russian breed, the Bashkir, from which the modern Curly was believed to have descended. However, the American horses may have been incorrectly named.

The Bashkir horse bloodline is descendant of the steppe horses from western Asia. The effect of their specific climate created characteristics that differ from other breeds that share the same ancestors, they are much heavier in build.

Origin of the Breed
The exact origin of the Bashkir Curly is one of the greatest mysteries of the horse world. One of the theories, and the source of their name, is that they are descended from the Russian Bashkir.
