The Bavarian Warmblood's ancestor, the old chestnut Rottaler, was bred in the fertile valley of the Rott, an area that was noted for the excellence of its horses in the past.
Bavarian Warmblood Horse owes its origin to South Germany, Lower Bavaria. This horse breed developed from older Bavarian heavy Warmblood breed known as Rottaler.

The Bavarian Warmblood is a horse of southern Germany that was bred using the old Bavarian "Rottaler" breed, and English Thoroughbred and Trakehner stallions. The Bavarian Warmblood was registered as a separate breed since 1963.
