Every single beat of the heart involves a sequence of events known as the cardiac cycle consisting of three major stages; atrial systole, ventricular systole and complete cardiac diastole.

It is a four-beat, lateral gait with each foot contacting the ground independently in a regular sequence at precise intervals creating a rapid, unbroken rhythm. The musical cadence produces the sound: taca-taca-taca-taca.

RACK: A four beat gait, each foot striking the ground separately, neither a pace or trot.
FLAT WALK: A true square four-beat walk with cadenced head motion and good form.

The "TÖLT", a 4-beat lateral gait also known as running walk. The Tölt can be performed at any speed and is smooth and comfortable for the rider.

A trot is a "two beat" diagonal gait in which a foreleg and opposite hindleg (often called "diagonals") touch the ground at the same time.

The tolt is a four-beat running walk. The hooves hit the ground in the same four-beat pattern as the walk, but with more height, speed and animation to the stride. Incredibly smooth for the rider, the tolt can be performed at any speed.

It is still hard to beat for treatment:
IV bute for pain. The dose is adjusted to affect.

The basic characteristics are of a medium-sized horse of gentle temperament with an easy ambling four beat gait. This gait made it the horse of choice on the farms and the rugged foothills of the Appalachians. It was a horse for all seasons.

Slower than a gallop, this is a three beat gait. Chestnut A color of horse, reddish brown with a similar colored mane and tail, or the bony protrusion on the inside of forearm of each foreleg. Cob A small, strong horse descended from draft horses.

In 1991 Darlene Salminen and Vicky Belle Isle met through their mutual interest in learning about the four-beat gait in Appaloosas.

The Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse is distinguished by its natural four beat gait called an amble, or rack. This smooth, gentle gait can be maintained over rough terrain and has the same footfall pattern as the walk has.

The principal advantage of this lateral four beat gait is its greater smoothness resulting from the periods of triple hooves support and from the overreach.

(2) The horse must have a natural ambling four beat gait (single foot or rack), with no evidence of pacing.

One of the most notable traits retained by Tiger Horses was the ability to perform an intermediate four-beat gait, or, as it became known later, the "Indian Shuffle".

The tolt is a four beat, very fast running walk and the pace is a two beat lateral gait carried flat-out. The pace can only be maintained over short distances. Typically the Icelandic horse is strong, sturdy, and stocky.

This is a four beat running walk which can be performed at any speed and is extremely comfortable for the rider.

The most distinguishing characteristic of the Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse is the natural four gait beat called an amble, or rack.

Unlike the trot which is a 2 beat gait, the palfrey's amble is a 4 beat gait making it a smoother, more comfortable ride than the trot, but not as fast as the canter.

The Tiger Horse is famous for its four beat gait, which is one of the most comfortable gaits for a human rider. Tiger Horses are also kind, loyal, and strong. They are loved for being superior, beautiful, hardworking and are a great travel horse.

" The rack is a bi-lateral four-beat gait which is neither a pace nor a trot. It is often called a "single-foot" because only one foot strikes the ground at a time.

Today's Paso Fino reflects its Spanish heritage through its proud carriage, elegance, and natural four-beat gait. When most people first see a Paso Fino, they are impressed by its noble appearance.

In experienced consolidated horses, the closest the aids can be to each other is from one footfall of the beat of the rhythm of the particular gait. Take Shoulder-in for example.

A "Gaited" horse is one which performs any of the four-beat natural gaits in place of or in addition to the trot. These gaits are the stepping pace, the rack, the running walk, saddle, single-foot, and the fox-trot.

TROT: A balanced, two-beat diagonal gait.
USEF: The United States Equestrian Federation. Founded in 1917, this body governs American equine sports.

It has a four-beat, walk-trot gait that is considered one of the most comfortable rides in the world. The forelegs show a hightened action, and the hind legs are driven powerfully under the horse with lowered quarters.

(A closely related breed is the Garrett Walking Horse ) Their unique four-beat "running walk" is especially comfortable to ride, making the breed a well-suited trail companion.

Both are 'ambling' gaits in that they progress with one foot on the ground at a time, in a four-beat rhythm giving a smooth seamless ride. The Slow Gait is not slow but travels at about 20-25 mph; the Rack in the region of 35 mph.

They often bite aggressively while jumping against the webbing, trying to reach those who walk by, horses and people alike. No need to reprimand them or beat them for it, as that will agitate them even more.
