The history of the Boer horse is as old as the history of the white civilization in Southern Africa. The growth and development of the breed were parallel and inseparably connected to the history of the white settlers.

The Cape Boerperd Breeders Society was formed in 1948 when a group of horse enthusiasts realized that the Boerperd was quickly disappearing in our mechanical age.
The SA Boerperd is a comfortable riding horse, capable of five gaits such as walk, trot, canter, short-gait and rack. The horse performs well on the sports field, in the show arena, trail and endurance rides.
Various attempts were made to form a Boerperd Society, and in 1973 the Boerperd Society of South Africa was formed.
