Firouz was searching for small ponies to be ridden by children, when she happened upon a bay stallion in the town of Amol. The horse was pulling a heavy cart, and was nicely conformed with the body of a "well-bred oriental horse.

 


Caspian Horse Breed Characteristics :
The Caspian horse is a purebred ancient breed that is developed thousands of years ago. Its country of origin is Iran and there it is also known as Mouleki or Pouseki which means little muzzle.

The Caspian is perhaps the most ancient of breeds, and is believed to have been extinct for over 1000 years before 1965.

Caspian stallions ran together at pasture without meanness or unruliness, and were successfully ridden by 5 year-old children.
The Caspian's jumping talent is no less than extraordinary as it excels with ease and proves a born jumper.

Caspian Horses have been successfully used in pony club, dressage, harness, and jumping, and are good all-rounders for younger riders.

CASPIAN ARABIAN ponies will be accepted into the registry before they reach 6 months of age and will be branded before they reach 24 months of age. The brand will be placed upon the quarters at both sides.

The Caspian is an important breed that an American lady named Louise Firouz rediscovered in Iran in 1965. The Caspian is a miniature horse, but is referred to as a pony breed.

The Caspian Pony is extremely hardy, with very dense bone and hard feet that do not need shoeing. Additionally, the pony is of great quality, similar in build to the Arabian. The head should be short and fine with large eyes and a tapering muzzle.

It lies east of the Caspian Sea, with the Aral Sea to the north and the Amu Darya river and Qyzyl-Qum desert to the northeast. The desert is a rocky, flat desert surrounded by mountains.

It is supposed that the horse was first used by a tribe of Indo-European origin that lived in the steppes north of the chain of mountains adjacent to the Black and Caspian seas.

Indeed, horses were probably first domesticated in and around the areas that form the natural habitat of these ponies, lands that extend from the steppes bordering the Black and Caspian Seas in the south, ...

These include the Icelandic horse, Fjord horse and Caspian horse breeds.
