Coffin Bone

Horse CobColic

Coffin Bone -- Sits between the second phalanx and the horny sole.
Coronary Band -- Where the hoof joins the leg; where the hoof wall is produced; source of growth and nutrition for the hoof wall and bars. Incorrectly referred to as coronet.

coffin bone - The third phalanx (P3). The major bone that is within the confines of the hoof. Also called the pedal bone.

colic - Refers to abdominal pain.

The coffin bone sinks away from the wall at the level of the coronet.
Pain prevents a horse from rising.
In the case of remarkable pain and little rotation, there is always hope, but some of these horses will be very slow to recover.

"Think of laminae and lammelar structures as being like hooks and loops attaching and suspending the coffin bone within the hoof," Moyer says.
